Types of Gynecological Infections

  • Vulvitis
  • Vaginitis
  • Cervicitis
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)

Pelvic Pain

Female pelvic pain is pain below a woman's belly button. It is considered chronic if you've experienced pain for at least 6 months. The type of pain varies from woman to woman. In some women, it is a mild ache that comes and goes. In others, the pain is so steady and severe that it makes it hard to sleep, work, or enjoy life.

The important thing to find the cause of the pelvic pain.  Treating the cause is the only way to make the pain go away. If no cause is found, Dr Hinson can help you find ways to ease the pain and get back your quality of life.

Abnormal Bleeding

It is normal for a woman's menstrual bleeding to last up to seven days. Abnormal bleeding occurs when the menstrual period is not regular, when bleeding lasts longer than normal, is heavier than normal, or when bleeding patterns change.

There are many causes of abnormal bleeding. Dr Hinson may begin looking for the cause of abnormal bleeding by checking for problems most common in your age group. To diagnose abnormal bleeding, Dr Hinson will need to know your personal and family health history. You may be asked about:

  • Past or present illnesses
  • Use of medications
  • Use of birth control
  • Weight, eating, exercise habits and level of stress

One or more of the following tests also may be needed based on your symptoms:

  • Endometrial biopsy
  • Ultrasound
  • Hysteroscopy
  • Dilation and curettage (D&C)
  • Laparoscopy

Most of these tests can be done in Dr Hinson's office, others may be done at a hospital.

Bladder Disorders

Bladder disorders can be caused by anatomical defects and/or by nerves that work poorly, and can lead to different kinds of bladder control problems:

  • Overactive bladder
  • Urinary frequency; defined as urination eight or more times a day or two or more times at night
  • Urinary urgency; the sudden, strong need to urinate immediately
  • Urge incontinence; leakage of urine that follows a sudden, strong urge to urinate
  • Leaking of urine with coughing, sneezing, and change of position
  • Poor control of sphincter muscles
  • Urine retention
