Sex . . . Take It Or Leave It?

It is often an embarrassing question for women to ask: What has happened to my sex drive? Loss of libido is common in women, especially as they grow older and their hormones change. However, there are many factors that can and will contribute to a woman’s diminishing sexual desire.

Hormone levels will affect a woman’s libido. While most women associate testosterone with men, it is a fact that the ovaries not only produce estrogen, but small amounts of testosterone. The fluctuations of a woman’s hormones can be caused my monthly cycles or age cycles, therefore throwing a woman’s sexual drive off balance. Hormones are often a large factor in low libido.

Hormone levels affect the dryness of the vagina, which can also be a problem—it makes intercourse uncomfortable, and the natural lubrication is full of other hormones that coincide with sexual arousal. While lubricants can help with the physical dryness, they do no solve the problem of low libido.

So many factors can be contributing to a woman’s loss of sexual want, and the best plan is to see Dr. Joanne Hinson. As a woman in practice for over 25 years, she can go over any physical or mental symptoms that you are dealing with and decide upon the best course of action for your low libido. Often, further testing may be needed, and Dr. Hinson will have a wide variety of treatment plans available to you.
