Women may be in need of birth control, no matter what stage of life they find themselves in. While permanent birth control such as Essure is available for those who want it, some women are not ready to take that step and need to look into another form of pregnancy protection. Condoms

are well known and accessible almost anywhere. However, especially in a monogamous relationship, there may be more comfortable alternatives.

Nexplanon, or the etonogestrel implant, is an ideal way for a woman to have constant birth control, up to three years. Nexplanon is placed in the arm by an experienced health care provider. The skin on the inside of the arm is sterilized and made numb. The doctor then inserts the implant and checks to make sure it went in properly. The entire procedure is done in the provider’s office.
Be sure to have it checked on all of your yearly checkups and have it removed or replaced at the end of three years. Side affects are like most hormonal birth control, such as occasional headaches, acne, mood swings, nausea, or dizziness. While these symptoms are fairly normal, be sure to tell your doctor right away if anything becomes unusual or severe. Menstrual bleeding may become heavier, lighter, or disappear completely.
Dr. Joanne Hinson preforms the Nexplanon implantation in her comfortable office in Salt Lake City. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us to schedule an appointment.
