A permanent method of birth control does not always have to mean an incision in your abdomen. Essure is a less-invasive, non-scarring procedure that gives a woman permanent birth control. Essure is a Contraceptive Tubal Occlusion Device and Delivery System. Essure uses a much less invasive method to achieve the desired permanent protection, and also causes less injury to the reproductive system.

The procedure takes about 30-45 minutes. Two nickel coils are inserted through the vagina and cervix and up into the fallopian tubes. Over the next three months, scar tissue forms around the nickel coils, causing a blockage in the tubes. This blockage is what prevents the sperm and egg from meeting so that conception never occurs.

Over those months, as the scar tissue is developing, another form of birth control must be used. After the three months, your doctor will preform the confirmatory x-ray, to be certain that the coils have done their work and the blockage is complete. Once it is, the entire procedure is complete and your birth control is permanent.

Essure is the preferred method for so many women as there is no general anesthesia, no surgery, no incisions, and no hospital stay. Many insurances cover the procedure, and  patients find themselves only having to pay a small office co-pay. Dr. Joanne Hinson is an Essure professional and preforms Essure in her office. It is ideal for women of all ages and in all walks of life. For more information or to make an appointment, contact her friendly staff at 801-364-4030.
