Geriatric Gynecology for Seniors

The question of good physical care for aging adults in America is haunting many caregivers. Age increases vulnerability, probably because as we age we Care For Senior Womenbecome greatly reliant upon others and are susceptible to mistreatment. Physiologic processes as we age become less resistant therefore the potential for harm from medical care increases. Health issues that may harm the female patient both gynecology care and self-sufficiency include sensory deficits (such as lying in a bed for long periods of time where loss of feeling in lower extremities hides the vaginal issues), physical disability (unable to get around on her own), and cognitive impairment (patient is unable to speak due to stroke or other ailment) Speaking slowly and providing appropriate information can enhance patient understanding.

Gynecology Issues Unique to Senior Women

Some disease and illnesses that may be overlooked in geriatric female patients can include, Cancer screening, Osteoporosis, Gynecology symptoms , Incontinence (which is particularly complex issue, and must include bladder diary assessment and pelvic floor muscle training).
