Hysteroscopy | GYN Treatment for Women

A hysteroscopy is a way for Dr Hinson to look at the lining of your uterus when there is an obvious problem. A hysteroscopy may be done to find the cause of abnormal bleeding or bleeding that occurs after a woman has passed menopause. It also may be used to see if a problem in your uterus is preventing you from becoming pregnant. A hysteroscopy can be used to remove growths in the uterus, such as fibroids or polyps.

Hysteroscopy may be either diagnostic or operative in nature. Diagnotistically speaking, it is used to diagnose some uterine abnormalities, and may also be used to confirm the results of other tests such as hysterosalpingography.

An operative hysterocopy may be used, instead of open abdominal surgery, to both diagnose and treat certain conditions such as uterine adhesions, septums, or fibroids which can often be removed through the hysteroscope.

The best time for hysteroscopy is during the first week or so after your period. During this time your physician is best able to view the inside of the uterus.

Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive intervention that can be used to diagnose and treat many intrauterine and endocervical problems. Hysteroscopic polypectomy, myomectomy, and endometrial ablation are just a few of the commonly performed procedures. Given their safety and efficacy, diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy have become standards in gynecologic practice.
