Endometrial Biopsy | Salt Lake City

An endometrial biopsy is a procedure where a GYN takes a small sample of the lining of the uterus for the purpose of locating problems that you may have with your endometrium. An endometrial biopsy also lets Dr Hinson check to see if your body's hormone levels are effecting your endometrium. Dr Hinson's office is located at 24 S 1100 E, Suite 210 Salt Lake City, Utah 84102.Endometrial Biopsy | Salt Lake City

The uterus (womb) is lined by a special type of tissue known as the endometrium. Endometrial biopsy is a technique of removing a piece of tissue from the inner lining of the uterus for the purpose of analyzation.

Why Endometrial Biopsy?

An endometrial biopsy would be performed done if Dr Hinson suspects you have a problem with your endometrium, which would include; endometrial hyperplasia, low estrogen or progesterone, and endometrial cancer.

Endometrial hyperplasia and cancer are very rare in women under 40. However, if you have problems with bleeding or spotting and your progesterone levels are normal, an endometrial biopsy might be a good idea.

An endometrial biopsy is most often performed to help determine the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding. It is also used to evaluate test for uterine infections or identify causes of infertility, among other issues.

An endometrial biopsy may be performed in Dr Hinson's office, taking about 45 mintues, and typically does not require anesthesia or hospitalization.

Endometrial Biopsy Explained

Dilation and Curettage: Dilation and curettage is a procedure in which your doctor removes tissue from the inside of your uterus. Dilation and curettage is used to diagnose or treat various uterine conditions, such as heavy bleeding, or to clear the uterine lining after a miscarriage or abortion.

Endometrial Ablation: Endometrial ablation is a procedure that removes the uterine lining, or endometrium. This procedure is used to treat dysfunctional or abnormal uterine bleeding. The endometrium heals by scarring, which usually reduces or prevents uterine bleeding. Endometrial ablation may be done in an outpatient facility or your doctor's office.
