Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Surgery | GYN | Utah

Until recently, surgery for most gynecologic problems were performed open abdominal surgery. Fortunately, there is a minimally invasive option for treating gynecologic conditions designed to overcome the limits of traditional open and surgery, and it is referred to as laparscopy surgery.

A Hysterectomy, the surgical removal of the uterus, is a recommended intervention in variety of gynecologic conditions, including:

  • Abnormal excessive bleeding
  • Fibroids
  • Uterine cancer
  • Cervical cancer
  • Endometriosis and adenomyosis (in some cases)

These are just a few of many conditions that might require a hysterectomy.

The hysterectomy surgical procedure can be performed several ways, vaginally, laparoscopically assisted, or open through the abdomen (abdominal hysterectomy). An abdominal hysterectomy is an inpatient procedure that is done using general anesthesia. Laparoscopic surgery is less invasive and requires less recovery time when compared to open abdominal surgery.

Patients Heal Faster with Laparoscopy Surgery

Most important, laparoscopy patients heal faster, with a return to work and activity as quickly as two weeks, while open hysterectomy patients required six to nine weeks to return to normal activity. Vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomies have been clearly associated with decreased blood loss, shorter hospital stay, speedier return to normal activities, and fewer abdominal wall infections when compared with abdominal hysterectomies.

Dr Hinson's patients are thrilled with the less invasive surgical procedure and are glad to be rid of the problems that led them to decide to have the surgery. Most patients claim that it was much easier than they thought it would be. Many of Dr Hinson's laparscopy patients do not require pain pills. They report that they feel fortunate to have taken this option. They can see that the vast difference between the less invasive surgery as compared to open abdominal surgery.
